...mile race Dives made a poor start and finished 20 yards behind Dear of Pennsylvania. Bauer lost still more ground so that on the third lap Young started over 100 yards behind Johnston of Yale. He made up some of the distance but not enough to give Rust a chance to win. The sharp pace which Rust had to set to overtake the field could not be sustained and he finished 200 yards behind Long of Yale, who defeated Taylor of Pennsylvania in an exciting finish.
