Ross Baughman won a Pulitzer Prize for his Associated Press photograph of a suspected Rhodesian guerrilla; it turned out that the photo had earlier been rejected for an Overseas Press Club a Ward, in part because the judges learned that Baughman was armed and wearing a Rhodesian cavalry uniform. Then Richard Valentine Cecil, a British television correspondent and TIME stringer, was killed last April by guerrillas, reportedly while carrying a rifle and accompanying an army detachment. Ross Baughman for his Associated Press pictures of Rhodesian guerrillas, even though the shots had missed an Overseas Press Club award because some of the judges had doubts about their authenticity; the A.P. and Baughman stood by the pictures. And as in previous years, Pulitzer screening judges in several categories complained publicly that the final selection board had ignored their recommendations, although the panel is free to do so under the rules...

Peter Tetlow, senior Rich Baughman and Pace Canales placed 1-2-3 for Harvard in the 1000 free. Tetlow swam the distance in 10:03 and Baughman in 10:06. As there was no substantial competition from Cornell, Essick must have told Canales to take it easy as he finished 40 seconds after Tetlow Canales did come back and swim a strong 4:47 in the 500 free to beat Cornell's Johnson and win the event...
