...week, the three astronauts were whisked to the deck of the recovery carrier New Orleans. Then, wobbly but smiling, they were guided by NASA doctors a few steps to waiting chairs and quickly carted off atop a moving platform for medical examinations. The return of Skylab 2 Astronauts Alan Bean, Jack Lousma and Owen Garriott was in fact so subdued compared with past homecomings that it did not begin to do justice to their remarkable accomplishment: they had just completed man's longest voyage in space...
...tomboy's existence. She learned woodsmanship, fishing and baby-alligator trapping from her stepfather, Jack Hall. (Hutton is the name of her real father, who died after her parents separated; Lauren she borrowed from Bacall.) A scruffy, skinny girl whom the kids called "the yellow wax bean," she earned her first pennies selling worms to fishermen. It took a matchmaking teacher to get her an escort for the senior prom. She wore blue jeans all through high school, tossing a dress over them to get around the anti-dungaree regulations. "I looked like a drag queen," she recalls...
DILLINGER is the first feature directed by John Milius, a young screenwriter who is as well known for his self-publicizing as for his screenplays (Jeremiah Johnson, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean). Its main inspiration...

And recently she branched out to her first film role, playing the Mexican wife of Alan Arkin in the forthcoming Freebie and the Bean. "When they offered me the part," she says, "I said you ought to get a Chicano girl, but if you're going with Sandra Dee, then take...
...Looking out into space, Jack Lousma was equally impressed: "There's nothing except a bit of light reflecting off the solar panels, a few stars and a half-moon." Both astronauts were outside Skylab, finally taking their long-postponed space walk. From inside the spaceship, Skylab Commander Al Bean sounded envious. "Well, you will surely remember this day for a long time," he said. Indeed they would. Before Garriott and Lousma re-entered the orbital laboratory last week, they had spent some 6½ hours outside-nearly doubling the endurance record for a space walk set only two months...
