When police, who were on the scene but unobtrusive at first, refused to play, the Weathermen vented their frustration in a senseless rampage. They stopped cars and beat the bewildered passengers, smashed windows and glass doors, and urinated on everything in sight. Some charged head-on into squads of policemen. The cops retaliated with nightsticks, tear gas and, in a few instances, guns. Police arrested 60 that night. Later they obtained warrants and, in a predawn raid on the Covenant United Methodist Church of neighboring Evanston, picked up 43 of the nearly 200 S.D.S. members staying there. Three demonstrators were...
...Beat. One morning last week, the 8 a.m. police shift went off to the Paul Sauvé Arena to argue strike tactics instead of reporting to their beats. Suddenly the city was left unguarded. By 11:20 a.m., the first bank robbery had occurred. By noon shops began to close, and banks shut their doors to all except old customers. Early in the evening, a group of taxi drivers added to the confusion. Protesting the fact that they are prohibited from serving Montreal's airport, they led a crowd of several hundred to storm the garage of the Murray...
...Haven had made Dowling an athletic god and Boston went along. By midseason last fall, it became apparent that Yale would roll to an undefeated season. After Harvard beat Dartmouth, it realistically had only to dump Penn and outlast Princeton to set up a battle that sportswriters had waited almost a century to glorify. Harvard and Yale, both undefeated, headed by the gods, Dowling and Gatto, Yale's unstoppable offense against Harvard's unmovable defense, with the Ivy title at stake, and Dowling's deification on the line...
CORNELL-PRINCETON: Rutgers beat Princeton, 29-0 but Rutgers beat Cornell by only 21-7. But don't let that fool you; it didn't fool me. There's going to be a lot of running in today's game and Cornell's Ed Marinaro will do a good bit of it. Princeton, however, has a bit more talent and is improving faster than Cornell. It'll be surprisingly close for the old Tiger alumnus, but they'll smile to the tune...
ORIOLES-METS: If the Mets can beat the Braves as badly as they did, there's no reason to think that they can't do worse damage to the overly swelled egos of the Baltimore team. And New York teams just don't lose to those from Baltimore, even when the odds-makers instruct them to. As for today's game, there is no way they can beat Tom Seaver, originally a Braves product who is a fine young pitcher. The New Breed to win, 4-2. My Red Barber autographer, obtained when the Old Redhead came to Mt. Kisco...
