William J. Bingham '16, Director of Athletics, announced yesterday that a new Pocock eight oared shell has been given to the University by Robert F. Herrick '90, great benefactor of Harvard rowing.
On October 25, after Browder had been indicted in New York, Greene wrote to the Society that their application was "in order," but considering the circumstances that had arisen because of the Browder indictment, Greene suggested that the Society abandon their plans "lest questions of propriety should be raised."
The John Read Society "feels that the question of 'propriety' ought not to keep students from hearing what Browder has to say.... It had been our understanding that the selection of speakers for undergraduate organizations was not one of Mr. Greene's duties."
In addition to the above list, there will be inter-House basketball, squash, and swimming leagues which will be conducted by Adolph W. Samborski '28. Basketball schedules have also been planned for the graduate schools but the time and place of these will be announced later.
Down in Eliville the race is still undecided, with both the Calhoun Senators and the Saybrook Seals in the running for the championship. Neither team has been defeated, but the Calhoun eleven has been held to a tie three times so Saybrook is likely to get the call.
