Although American Jews generally back the Begin government, some disquiet about its policies has surfaced. Two weeks ago, 36 leading U.S. Jewish intellectuals, including Novelist Saul Bellow and Sociologist Daniel Bell, sent an open message of support to an Israeli peace group that had urged Begin to be more flexible in negotiations.
