...might abandon tradition if urged by a large number of students and organizations. But the third part of the resolution makes the motives of those who passed it extremely suspect. They appear to be inordinately concerned with getting their names or the names of organizations to which they may belong associated with that of Mr. Wallace. There was no question of the competence of AVC to handle the details of the Wallace visit, nor was there any doubt that he would attract a capacity crowd, yet AVC is to be the recipient of some free advice on the conduct...
Afterward, Attlee met a miners' committee, including Mine Union Boss Arthur Homer, a Communist whose first loyalties might not belong to his country in crisis (TIME, July 28). Boys become deacons and begin taking part in religious services when they are twelve. As they grow older they may become, successively, teachers, priests, elders, members of a Council of Seventy, and high priests. Women only "share in their husbands' priesthood," although...
...five dark-skinned men sat back and mopped their brows with satisfaction. They were the officers of Local 713, United Public Workers of America (C.I.O.), and they had just signed up their 15,897th dues payer. This meant that most of the men now working on the Panama Canal belong to a union dominated by Communists...
