The question will then be what such a rally would be made of. It would be built on the assumption that everything will go our way from here, abroad and at home, and if there is military action it's not too telegenic. (Consumers don't shop when they're watching the news.) It could be very fragile indeed...

These ominous days are a time of mourning for our civilization. Much that is precious has been lost. Our sense of trust has been grotesquely violated. Horrors beyond our worst nightmares have been visited upon unsuspecting innocent people. A wicked act by 18 individuals bent on suicidal vengeance may well define the appalling horrors to come of this century. We mourn the loss of loved ones. And we mourn the loss of the sense of innocence that Americans had come to take for granted. Welcome to the 21st century...
...album explores radically different, uncharted ground. Her take on Tom Waits’ “Time,” is, despite the quantum difference in their voices, more or less straight on. She captures the sweet nostalgia of the track, giving it a particularly wistful feminine bent. Not so Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold”—this slightly mournful folk song she warps into a blistering Valkyrie ride atop distorted guitars and multi-layered wailing vocals. At this point one starts to lose the supposed thread of the album?...
