Rolf returned to Brazil in 1979, soon after Mengele drowned off a beach at Bertioga during an outing with the Bosserts. Brazilian police did indeed record a drowning at Bertioga on the day in question, and a few months later the Paraguayan government, which had granted Mengele citizenship in 1959, inexplicably canceled it.
