...keep track of events now outside its area of control. The Shin Bet, Israel's domestic security force, set up a special unit to select likely collaborators from among the close circles of Hamas activists and Palestinian Authority officials. The Shin Bet men who run the collaborator network in Bethlehem had two mobile homes as offices three years ago. Now they have seven. They have even paved a parking lot and planted a little garden. ...Israeli agents, it can be dangerous work. In June Lieut. Denver's old Stapleton Airport, an 8-sq.-mi. brownfield, will be ripped up for homes and shops set amid waterways. In all, the EPA estimates there are 450,000 brownfields--and possibly a million--nationwide...
...Matt Rees: It depends on what street you?re walking on. In Bethlehem people are extremely angry and not particularly frightened by the build up of Israeli troops close to that town. In Jerusalem or Tel Aviv it hasn?t changed all that much - there is a step up in the feeling of insecurity among Israelis, but that tends to get increased much more by a large suicide attack rather than violence in the West Bank...
