...took on the aspect of a real contest, and when the first half ended with the score 0 to 0, the situation appeared serious. A poorer exhibition of football would not be pleasant to imagine; and worst of all, it proved again that the University eleven has failed to better its playing under three weeks of efficient coaching. Every fault that the team has shown this fall cropped out in yesterday's game, and the wonder of it all is that the team ever pulled together enough to rush the ball through much lighter opponents the twenty-five yards necessary...

...HAVEN, October 8.-Yale defeated Wesleyan this afternoon in thirty two minutes of play by a score of 33 to 0. The Yale offense was slow, but it was better than it has been heretofore this season and four touchdowns were made during the first half. In the second half, the playing of the substitute team was poor, and only 11 points more were scored. The team was heavily penalized for holding. Ward's one hundred yard run for a touchdown from a kick-off was the feature of the game...

...better plan would seem to be one by which the college should offer a two and a four years' course, the former to be included in the latter. At the end of the two years' course the bachelor's degree would be awarded-at the end of the four years' course the master's degree. This suggestion seems less revolutionary when it is remembered that since 1860 the standard of requirements for the degree of A.B. has risen steadily, and that the age of its recipients has advanced about two years. President Butler adds: "By taking this step we should...

...best work for Harvard. Bowditch missed a tackle, but his stopping of end plays with little assistance from the rush line halfback's was remarkable. Together with Barnard he was very successful in helping along the runners on the offense. King, in spite of his weight, followed the ball better than the other men, and did some good work in the line. A Marshall was put in at guard for the first time. He did not use his weight to advantage and was slow in breaking through. Of the tackles used, Knowlton and Wright were the most satisfactory. They both...

...absence of Captain Kernan, the backfield will be especially strong. The eleven has been improving slowly of late, but only along individual lines. No indications of team work have yet appeared. The men, however, are not so apt to fumble as they were and their condition is gradually becoming better. Bates scored on Harvard in the game a year ago on account of a fumble, but with the lesson which the University team learned last Wednesday a repetition of this misplay is hardly likely to occur. As the Bates team is weaker than usual, a large score should be made...
