...actors, the earliest to distinguish himself was H. G. Eisenstadt '12, who played to the life a naive peddler. Hartwell himself was taken by R. M. Middlemass '09, whose acting grew steadily better from beginning to end, a gentle, noble, and at every crisis finely impassioned figure. Miss Gragg in an uneven role gave through the last two acts so sincere a performance that the house broke into applause at her defiance of the Rabbi, and then at the last became physically uncomfortable over her anguish at Hartwell's well-acted deatn. ...Sophomores defeated the Freshmen in the first game of the interclass basketball series yesterday afternoon by the score of 19 to 16. From the start the game was close and hard-fought. The Sophomores showed better team-play, but were often unable to score on account of poor goal throwing. Webber did the best work for the Sophomores, his playing being at all times hard and fast. It is right that this branch of the football system should be thoroughly organized with its own coaches and policy of play and as such they are awarded the insignia...
...Harvard's winning three great events. In Mr. Edgell's story "Two Operas" I find a pleasing old fashioned note--a story straightforwardly told and getting somewhere without baffling allusiveness or the world-worn ennui of two decades of life on this planet. The plot is a trifle better than the telling, but that fault can be remedied. A slightly cynical ending does not destroy the general simplicity. More ambitious and more difficult is the flight of "Tobias Medetates," the most important effort of this number. It is a venture into negro dialect; the character of Tobias is novel...
