Fairfield was graduated from St. George's School at Newport last June, passed his examinations for admittance into the College, but did not register in September. Shortly afterward he joined the Wynne Bevan Ambulance Corps, an English organization. He was only 18 years old, the youngest of the five Americans in the Bevan service, and also the youngest American in any branch of the army in Italy.
