...Life begins at 54 for Liza Minnelli and Shirley MacLaine and Farrah Fawcett-Majors and Supermodel Cheryl Tiegs. Oh, yes, and for Bianca Jagger and Tennis Star Vitas Gerulaitis and even Bella Abzug. Inside Manhattan's hottest disco, Studio 54, the elite meet to gyrate to the beat, gape and be gaped at. Owner Steve Rubell, who light-show years away was a Wall Street broker, stations himself at the doorway (with a few bouncers) to weed the throngs begging for entrance. "We only want fun people," he explains. "The wilder the clothes, the better the chance you have...
...Marriage? Certainly not, said little Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones, while Bianca just stood there in her see-through and smiled. Yes, St. Laurent's St. Tropez boutique was making a dress for Bianca, and yes, they were both staying up in the Hotel Byblos there, and yes, "Bianca and I have been together for several weeks. But I have no plans to marry." Still, 21-year-old Bianca Perez Morena de Macias of Nicaragua went...
...seems that the spotlight at college graduations is directed not at the expectant graduates but at celebrity speakers and recipients of honorary degrees. Some of the scholarly glamour was visible last week at Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass., as well as at Vassar and Yale. At Stonehill, Bianca Jagger, 38, former wife of Rock Star Mick, was awarded an honorary doctorate for humanitarian work in her native Nicaragua and in El Salvador and Honduras. Recalling her 1981 adventures as a jungle paparazzo in Honduras with two friends, she told of rescuing a group of refugee hostages from a band...
...show-biz royalty was saluting show-biz royalty on opening night as a cavalcade of limos rolled up to the marquee of the Winter Garden, disgorging the likes of Bianca Jagger, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Barbara Walters, Mary Tyler Moore, Placido Domingo and Joanne Woodward. Among them was the graciously articulate poet's widow, Valerie Eliot, the artistic patroness of the production. After the performance, the whole glittering assemblage adjourned to the Waldorf-Astoria for a celebratory supper. Buoyed on the crest of the show's commercial prospects, the festivities were not dampened by a wave of initial reviews that...
Trow's second essay does succeed in getting the reader to shake his head in bewilderment. Yes, it is embarrassing if the height of the social season occurs when Bianca Jagger rides through a Studio 54 party on a white horse led a naked man and woman. And it is ludicrous when geriatric fashion priestess Diana Vreeland comments, "The thing about Bianca is the patrician quality." Trow puts together a good piece of debunking journalism. One only wishes he had not confined it in the thinking of his first essay, and let the sillinessof his subjects speak more for itself...
