...develop the religious life and interest in philanthropic work of the Eastern colleges and schools through an interchange of ideas and contact with leaders of thought in the field. Delegates are quartered in tents and dormitories and a baseball series, a tennis tournament, a track meet, a big fourth of July celebration, followed by an enormous bonfire, and inspiring religious meetings addressed by leaders of philanthropic and religious thought are some of the creatures of the conference. ...notice in Saturday morning's CRIMSON, that a victory is ascribed to Johnson over Bryan in Friday's straw ballot. I wish to take issue with this misleading statement. As a matter of fact, Bryan received a big majority over Johnson from the Democratic voters. The fireworks, while hardly sufficient to make a good showing in so large a space, added to the beauty of the scene. West of the Stadium the bonfire, a big, substantial one, was started as soon as the fireworks were exhausted. Gathered around the fire, cheers were given for "John," and "Fair Harvard" was sung just before the march back to the Yard was begun. After a march through the Yard the procession was led to the John Harvard statue...
