...still anonymous 35-year-old man who received a baboon's liver in June is not doing well. The problem is infection, not rejection. Dye injected into his bile ducts to make them show up on X rays apparently caused the infection, and the patient's immune system, weakened by antirejection drugs, could not easily fight it. High doses of antibiotics reduced the resulting fever. But when tests showed the liver was excreting too little bile, the man's condition was downgraded to critical. ...bright is bad. Max, the rapacious industrialist, has a Stokowskian white mane that helps Gothamites think of him as Santa Claus, though Selina derisively calls him "Anti Claus." The Penguin's sewer-level lair, Arctic World, is a garishly colorful place; it has ice-white walls, chartreuse toxic bile and a giant yellow ducky that serves as the Penguin's Stygian barge...

Currently, for . instance, laparoscopic gall-bladder removal appears to carry a slightly elevated risk of bile-duct injury, but the injuries seem to be concentrated in the first operations a surgeon performs. For this reason, medical societies have begun drawing up training standards that direct novices to practice on animals first and then to conduct their first operations under an expert...
