...Which brings us to today. A day doesn't pass that I don't get a call from someone who asks me what really happened on 9/11. My initial reaction is, Read the 9/11 Commission report - Osama bin Laden did it. But then again, we hear more and more that key evidence in the 9/11 Commission Report is based on abusive interrogation tactics. We have no idea whether the 9/11 suspects were telling the truth or telling someone else's truth to please their interrogators. I hope Hayden puts a line under this one too, although no doubt...

...UNIFIL, since the end of the month-long war between Israel and Lebanon's militant Shi'ite Hizballah organization last summer. But UNIFIL has been bracing for just such an attack after months of intelligence warnings and threats from al-Qaeda leaders and Lebanon-based groups inspired by Osama bin Laden...

...Osama bin Laden has been urging Al-Qaeda followers to open up shop in Somalia for years, but there was always doubt about whether that call would resonate in a largely secular nation with a historic wariness of Arab interference. No longer. After January's attacks by Ethiopia--which were backed by U.S. air power and aimed to reduce the threat of terrorism--an increasingly international Islamist presence has flourished in the country, drawn by the chaos of postinvasion Somalia and the chance to strike back at the U.S. and its ally Ethiopia. In Mogadishu, Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohammed...

There are two kinds of songs on the White Stripes' Icky Thump. The first are primitive, grinding rockers--the kind people have known and cherished and unbuttoned one anothers' clothes to since the Rolling Stones first raided the blues bin. Let's call these the good songs. The second are so willfully odd and filigreed as to be almost beyond description, let alone comprehension. Suffice it to say that if you've ever wondered what a Patti Page, Herb Alpert and Slash tribute to Three Amigos might sound like, there's a song on Icky Thump just...
