...dropping the ball, passing the buck or dodging a bullet. And now I'm starting to realize that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Our writers, though still wet behind the ears, are starting to endlessly shoot this shit as well. We don't want to bite the hand that feeds us, but soon enough we'll be digging our own grave. Musically, the show has been cannily put together. The eclectic 13-piece band includes both aging studio veterans and younger members of alternative-rock groups (Wondermints, Poi Dog Pondering) who worship at the altar of Wilson's bittersweet harmonies and who give Wilson's live sound more bite and elasticity than one might have expected. The complex arrangements, with so many interlocking voices, have the added benefit of cushioning Wilson's sometimes ragged but still expressive voice (by way of analogy, if not quite equivalence, think late Billie Holiday...
