...explanations, today I picked up a copy of Time and a copy of Mary McGrory's column concerning the Harvard situation. Being from the Boston area and a member of the military. I would appreciate commenting on the situation as everyone else seems to have done. McGrory is a bit too concerned about the Harvard "cool" and Time is too concerned about explaining how difficult it was for their reporter to enter University Hall. No one seems to care about the root of the problem--why it happened...

James Paul is, as ever, powerful, meticulous, and demanding of his orchestra. And the result is, as one has come to expect, a rendition of Sullivan's most exuberant score that splendidly complements Hammond's direction. The orchestra is slightly overbalanced towards strings and could, perhaps, have been a bit brassier; but the necessity to resort to criticism so minor only underscores the fact of an excellence that has become traditional...

Quite a number of courses recognize the existence of black men in the development of America; quite a bit of expertise is already available. However, merely recognizing black men as integral segements of certain overall social processes is not good enough. We are dealing with 25 million of our own people with a special history, culture, and range of problems...
