The reversal of the hero roles in The Merchant of Venice, though effective and interesting, is at times taken a bit too far. When Bassanio throws himself at Portia's feet--kicking and yammering petulantly for her forgiveness--one senses that Edelman may have been too diligent in his revision...
...Time have probably read about the entire races of creatures being created by computer. One of these creatures, Jar Jar Binks, is a central character in the film. And those of you who have seen the Star Wars Special Edition are probably hoping that Jar Jar will be a bit more convincing than was the computer-generated Jabba the Hutt. (If nothing else, Jar Jar's dialogue should get frequent laughs; he speaks in a grotesque pidgin English throughout the film...

...Petty, an old-school rock 'n' roller to be sure, comes off almost as an endangered species here: cornered, and at times a bit lonely and afraid. Still, Petty evokes rock's glory days with fresh vigor on this CD. His voice seems comfortably worn, ably evoking Bob Dylan's articulate whine and Neil Young's angelic, countrified croon. The songs on Echo don't mess with the form much: they arrive, they rock, they leave. This CD isn't a knockout, but it has punch...
