...gulping $150 million for its makers, the movie Jaws is spattering finny largesse all over the pop landscape. Shark teeth, selling for as much as $100 apiece unmounted, have bitten off a sizable hunk of the gimcrackery market in the form of necklaces, earrings and bracelets; Boston's New England Aquarium even sells small molars for 25? each. Fishing-gear dealers report a surging demand for the extra-heavy rigs-ranging in price from $200 to $1,000-that are needed to land the beasts on beach or boat. Shark-hunting clubs are booming...

Like the interim agreement itself, the happy hand-over of Ras Sudr owes much to American help. Experts from several American oil firms, including hard-bitten ex-roughnecks from Texas, had gone to Ras Sudr in October to arrange the turnover on Egypt's behalf. At the signing ceremony, which took place inside a former Israeli compound (a sign on the fence in Hebrew warned of land mines), the Egyptians beamingly approved of the Americans' work. Mailer's blow-by-blow description of the fight strains to create more excitement than a ringside radio announcer. "Making love to a brunette when she is wearing a blonde wig" is his punchy simile for Ali's tactical shift in style...

Like Williams, Quinn had a few battle scars from the previous evening. "I got bitten on the cheek last night by a girl because I wouldn't go dancing," he explained, adding: "I wanted to be fresh for today...

Like Michael, Coppola has bitten off more than he can chew. There are too many scenes and too many minutes in Godfather II for such a relatively straightforward story as it tells, and, while there are moments of suspense--when an ambush in a dimly lit New York bar explodes onto the street in a full-scale battle, when Michael's wife notices that the windows are open and a second later, burst after burst of gunfire destroys her bedroom--Coppola seems to have spent most of his energy on a few grand set pieces. The big party scene...
