...director orstar, which will enable audiences to enjoy atheatrical moviegoing experience the wayfilmmakers intended." There's some hope left. Butbefore we get too excited and lose sight of whythe restoration effort had to occur in the firstplace, just remember what Welles had to say abouthis troubles: I'm not bitter about Hollywood'streatment of me, but over its treatment ofGriffith, von Sternberg, Von Stroheim, BusterKeaton and a hundred others...
...shelling and bombing of hundreds of villages across Kosovo has forced close to 150,000 Kosovo Albanians to abandon what is left of their homes and run for their lives. Most of these displaced refugees are now living out in the open, in a very rugged mountainous territory. The bitter cold of the Balkan fall and winter will certainly add to their suffering. Even lines like "I've got my fanzine/so fuck the music scene!" do not sound bitter so much as they sound healthy, and Yatsura is certainly more concerned with making good music than with their indie cred. Two years ago, Costello and Bacharach co-wrote the song God Give Me Strength, included here, for the film Grace of My Heart. If only the rest of this album were up to that stunningly well-crafted peak. Bacharach brings out a new directness in Costello's singing and verse, but the millstone is cloying production. These engagingly sinuous tunes deserve better...
