...days ago, for a missing piece of property in the dismantled interior of University Hall noticed among the ruins of the chimney an old document of singular appearance, which curiosity led him to examine closely. It is a deed to six and a half acres of land, called the Black Fields, in Miteham, Sussex, England, and is dated Lady Day, March, 1651. Brown University was founded in Sussex, England, and subsequently removed to Rhode Island, and it is thought possible that the ancient parchment which has just been brought to light may be the original deed for the land...
