...Pharoah's heart (Exodus 11:10) so that he would not let the Israelites go, then kill in each Egyptian family because he would not (Exodus 11:29)? Or kill everybody on the earth except the few people in Noah's Ark? Surely the slaughtered children were not to blame! Your sectarianism may be less crude than at the Rhode Island College, but sectarianism is basically the same everywhere--a blind and blinding belief which will not permit the sectarian to make free use of accumulating knowledge or other evidence which disproves or casts doubt on the basic sectarian commitment...

...Focal Point. None of these problems invalidates the French theory. Film has all but replaced the novel as the chief topic of cultural talk on the campus and at many cocktail parties. Audiences as well as critics need someone to praise or blame for the total product. Given that need-and his new intellectual credentials-the director has become the focal point of film making. Henry Hathaway (True Grit), Howard Hawks (Red River) and John Ford (Cheyenne Autumn) have been reappraised as the prime movers of the west ern. The survey made clear that Americans believe that inflation has become a personal crisis for everybody, but few are willing to endure real personal sacrifices to curb it. By a vote of 79% to 6%, people who were polled thought that...

People correctly complain that prices are going up faster under Nixon than they did under President Johnson, but the blame belongs to the Johnson Ad ministration. In the mid-1960s, Lyndon Johnson pressed ahead simultaneously with both the Great Society and the Viet Nam escalation, without requesting an increase in taxes. Between 1965 and 1968, federal spending jumped 47%, and the Government put much more money into the economy than it took out. Johnson feared that if he asked for higher taxes, Congress would balk at paying for what some economists now call the "marriage of the warfare...
