...Compounding the book's hamfisted nature is its tendency to sound like an apologia for the Chinese government. For instance, the Naisbitts blame "the Western press" for stoking fear about the 2003 SARS epidemic and contend that "Chinese media broke the news of official suppression of information about the SARS outbreak" in Beijing in 2003. In fact, the cover-up was revealed by Jiang Yanyong, a courageous Communist Party doctor whose statement on the subject was first published in TIME. ...half the food aid sent to Somalia is pocketed by crooked contractors, local U.N. staffers and Islamic militants. That's the unsettling conclusion of a new Security Council report, which recommends an independent investigation into the U.N.'s World Food Programme operations in Somalia. With the Olympics now seen as Putin's pet project, it may be harder for him to divert the blame if things don't go as planned...

...blame the NCAA for looking after its finances. After all, college sports are a big-time business. And, proponents of expansion say, fans will soon get used to the bigger field. "Every time you had the tournament expanded, you had a lot of people who were against it," says CBS analyst Greg Anthony, who was point guard for the 1990 UNLV team that won the national title. "But ultimately, it proved to be the right decision." College basketball moved from a 53-team tournament to a 64-team event in 1985. "I love the tournament now," says Anthony. "I loved...
