...soldier who developed hypogeusia following an intestinal operation found himself unable to stand the taste or smell of most foods. A 53-year-old pizza maker said that many foods "smelled or tasted like manure or decayed garbage." He had to quit his job and limit himself to a bland diet. Some victims became so depressed that they contemplated suicide...
...hopes for the Paris talks will now rest on William J. Porter, the highly skilled career diplomat who is expected to succeed Bruce. Porter, who has been U.S. ambassador to South Korea since 1967, is relatively unknown outside diplomatic circles. Michell won England...

Since 1960 Veronica, an old German lightship owned by the Worldwide Trading Co. of Liechtenstein, has beamed advertisements, contemporary pop music and news to Dutchmen bored with the conservative blandness of The Netherlands' three state-subsidized radio stations. Veronica became so popular that the Dutch government refused to ratify the 1965 Strasbourg convention for fear of losing votes. That agreement bars pirate stations from the territorial waters of the European nations that have signed it, and makes it illegal to supply programs or ads to such radio ships...
