...whirlwind casts of Lisa and Shuffle Along were caught, white-washed and turned loose again, they might give some idea of the pace of Go-Go. No white chorus ever went quite so fast before. There is a blare of trombones, a rattle of traps, a shriek of voices. For a while the audience holds its hand to its fevered brow, blinks agitatedly a few times, watches a few scenes fly by, shudders at a few clearly indicated jokes, and then it all seems to be over. ...fall circus on Soldiers Field has presented this year a series of performances that would be a credit to Barnum and Bailey. The program was opened by some tumbling followed by an exciting wrestling match. Then with a blare of trumpets came the pageantry of the "Praying Colonels" and after them the war dance of the Lost Tribe re-discovered. Up from the south came the Alligators, hardly disposed of when the Tiger sprang into the arena, dieted on raw beef so long that all efforts to tame him were unsuccessful...

...tender age and inexperience, "The Brat" is remarkably surefooted and bright. Heralded by no great blare of publicity and sneaking into town under cover of a blizzard came this little comedy, chuck full of laughter and flesh and blood humor. It came as manna in our wilderness of "shows." The play for some moments seems about to trail off into the ordinary ruck of "he be-friends, she loves, they marry" playlets, but the characters meant more to the author than did gentle stage tradition, so she let them work out their salvation. The result was a sincere little play...
