...been something of a mentor for Sotomayor, said the majority "failed to grapple with the questions of exceptional importance raised in this appeal." The three-judge panel's "perfunctory disposition," he wrote, contained "no reference whatsoever to the constitutional claims at the core of this case" - unusually blunt language for a court known for its collegiality in public...

...things differently will require diplomatic skills that often eluded his uncle, a dour and sometimes acerbic figure who clashed publicly with the U.S. over the Balkan wars, the genocide in Rwanda and Washington's unpaid U.N. dues. "My uncle tends to more public display, he tends to be more blunt," Boutros-Ghali says. "[At the IMF] different things are at stake. I will pound my fists in a closed room; there's nothing to be gained from doing it in public...

...industry, and more particularly the American car industry, has always favored blunt force in building and marketing cars. Make V8-powered cars that get poor mileage and sell them to people who don't need heavy four-wheel drive cars. Make claims that no one builds a better car even if all of the industry research says otherwise. Market cars by having women in bikinis sitting on the hoods. Toyota never had Miss September sitting in one of its cars, at least not that the public ever knew...
