...Towers tinctures our thoughts, however much we wish to deny them. Dutiful men like Avner Kauffman will be sent forth to improvise a response to terrorism, whatever its source. And to live with the unintended consequences of their actions. Any movie that subtly, yet insistently reminds us of this blunt truth about the world we have inherited is worth seeing. And pondering...
...which share a theme uncommon to comix: domesticity. Thankfully these non-fiction vignettes do not constitute moments of adorable "wisdom" from the mouths of babes, or triumphs of motherly multitasking. Rather, the focus stays on the darker side of child rearing and family difficulties, told in the blunt and funny style of the family big mouth. One page, titled "Anatomy of a New Mom" sums up the book's appeal: A mock medical diagram of a baggy-eyed woman nursing a "totally oblivious and blissed-out need machine," it points out all the identifying characteristics of new-mom-hood, like...
...frustration at Nigeria's problems. You only have to read the contents page to tap into Achebe's angst. In contrast to the Pentagon's stock answer that there are enough troops on the ground in Iraq, the commanders said that they not only needed more manpower but also had repeatedly asked for it. Indeed, military sources told TIME that as recently as August 2005, a senior military official requested...

That artistic addition to Trafalgar Square is one that should be appreciated by Londoners. Although the sculpture is very blunt, the decision to display it was excellent. Disabled people are frequently overlooked, and it is nice to see some appreciation for those who often face discrimination because of their physical condition. I was disappointed to read about the opposition to the sculpture. Everyone can benefit from recognizing the singular contributions...
