Christianity was introduced into Bohemia about 873, and taking a strong hold on the people, developed the spirit which later came into such bitter opposition with the Roman See. Bohemia was the theatre of hostilities during a large part of the Thirty Years' War, and was frequently pillaged by Swedish troops.
