...play. Marjorie Lytell as Peggy, the outspoken daughter of the "lady from Dubugue", and Robert Foulk as Jake, add variety to the scene by their physical and vocal contrast. The personable Miss Lytell was an excellent foil for the thoroughly different beauty of Gloria Holden. Roman Bohnen played the role of Hippolitus Lomi with remarkable conservatism, considering the opportunities offered for burlesque by the character of fortune-hunting Frenchmen. Even Eddie Wragge as the youthful Wilbur, was effective, luckily free from most of the usual failings of children on the stage...

At the dress rehearsal the neck was white. It looked so absurd that at the performance it was blackened like the face...
...Berlin, Michael Bohnen, most currently famed Wagnerian basso, announced that he was "sick and tired" of opera, said the public is tired of it too. He, who has rarely sung twice with the same makeup, is tired of the beards of Hans Sachs, Wotan, Hagen, King Mark. He has signed a contract to make sound-cinemas, believes that "everyone will soon be running to the cinema to take their music in this new form." In Chicago Louis Eckstein wrote a check for $103,458.50, half the deficit of the Ravinia Opera so that an ardently enthusiastic Chicago public might continue...
