Last summer, I sat with my grandmother in Poland one afternoon as she watched episode number 3,944 of her favorite show, “The Bold and the Beautiful.” After the episode, she made several phone calls to her friends in which they discussed the philosophical, ontological, sociological, neurobiological, and probably even dermatological implications of who said what during the episode. This is a major part of my grandmother’s life, and when I’m with her, I too need to establish a baseline knowledge of the show’s dynamics...

...Lunatic” presents another problem typical of unfinished films: it was written 50 years ago. The noir conventions that Kubrick would have played upon seemed trendy and cutting-edge then; to shoot a film like that today is a bold stylistic affectation that would undoubtedly dominate the audience’s attention. Even if the director of “Lunatic” decides to avoid the flashiness of noir cinematography, the piece is still set in 1956, and Hobbs and the production team have decided not to rewrite it. The most controversial measures include calling for teachers to work dozens of extra hours without compensation, rescinding layoff and seniority benefits, and linking annual pay raises to job performance. Although we believe that Johnson’s proposal that teachers work extra hours without increased pay is counterproductive, agreeing to union demands to scrap all the reform measures entirely will not improve the quality of teaching in the schools. BPS should instead focus...

...from bankruptcy and forcing through reforms. In the cavernous, colonnaded rooms of Maximos Mansion, where he met TIME on March 29, the Papandreou legacy seems to hang uneasily on the down-to-earth, softly spoken premier. The Apple laptop on his desk, the Prius in the driveway and the bold modern art next to the leather-bound books are small but telling signs of how he is shaking up the fusty world of Greek politics. "I do believe in a few years we'll be proud to say we went through this very difficult time, and we've come...
