...against Iran eventually comes to a head, Washington still needs China aboard. Second, Beijing imports a huge and growing amount of oil and gas, and an increasing portion of that is bound to come from the Persian Gulf. Third, Beijing wouldn't be directly threatened if Iran got the bomb. Now put yourself in Hu's shoes. Your two biggest trading partners, the U.S. and the E.U., are soon going to come pleading with you not to vote against sanctions that, if they are to have any meaning, will include Iran's oil and gas exports. ...boss was incapacitated or even dead. The U.S. believes the 10-minute taped message, which aired on the Arab TV channel al-Jazeera, was probably recorded sometime since November, partly because of a reference to British newspaper reports from that time about a purported proposal by President Bush to bomb al-Jazeera. ...Your Photos of the Year prove that 2005 was a devastating time for most of the world. My eye was caught by the picture of the London bus mangled by a bomb explosion. Ironically, the remains of a theater or movie advertisement on the side of the bus read, OUTRIGHT TERROR ... BOLD AND BRILLIANT. Emilio A. Schlabitz Culver City, California...
