Field, Paine Professor of Practical Astronomy, runs the Center for Astrophysics and the Harvard College Observatory. Besides being a professor at MIT, and a noted astronomer, Morrison used to hold the patent for the nuclear bomb--honest, he worked on the Manhattan Project. ...just prior to the November elections in which peace was a central issue, Kissinger announced that "peace was at hand." Nixon won a mandate, despite growing concern over Watergate, in large part over foreign maneuvers such as this. Over Christmas, Kissinger played a central role in the decision to bomb Hanoi. More lives were lost; yet more of Vietnam was laid waste. When the accords were finally signed, Kissinger again lied, stating categorically that there were no secret protocols or understandings. ...trial for allegedly trying to sell classified documents to the Soviet Union (TIME, Jan. 3). Their sons are apparently not threatened by cancer, but there are indications that in some cases they may also be affected-by genital deformities or sterility. By 1971, when the federal Food...
...clear that DES created a legal time bomb as well. Billions of dollars worth of damage suits against drug companies (and in a few cases against hospitals and physicians) have already been filed by apparent DES victims and their relatives. Last week former U.S. Representative Patsy T. Mink of Hawaii, now an Assistant Secretary of State, announced that she was seeking $77.7 million for herself and 1,080 other women she says were subjected to DES in a 1951-52 clinical study...
