...with a 26% approval rating. In local elections two weeks ago Labour took a drubbing, slumping to third place behind the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. Polls indicate that people now consider Labour sleazier and more internally divided than the Tories. And Blair's a lame duck to boot. To secure the help of Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown, his impatient heir apparent, in last year's election, Blair declared he would quit during this Parliament: effectively no later than 2009. Already half of voters want him to go by the end of the year; 36% say immediately. To prolong...
...smell a new market. In 1996 brothers and co-owners Emmanuel and Thomas Saujet of Cannes began peddling Hanae Mori, a fragrance they developed, to U.S. retailers. Ten years later, it turns more than $20 million in annual global sales. "The first three years were worse than boot camp," admits Thomas. "The most effective kick start comes from a combination of diet and exercise," she explains. She runs her camp for 12 weeks a year in the Spanish hilltop village of Gaucín in Andalucia. But it's a movable raw-food feast, with two additional weeks planned...
...Middle East. Once Iran has the Bomb, Tehran and Moscow will practically control the world oil supply and could blackmail the U.S. and Europe. In the past few months, Tehran has bluntly positioned itself as the pre-eminent country opposing the U.S., the first step before trying to boot the U.S. out of the region. Let's hope that Negroponte's eyes, ears and mind are wide open. Aviv Hallel Ramat Hasharon, Israel Walling Off Hope time reported on Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's plans to complete a wall separating Israel from the Palestinians [April 17]. Olmert should consider...
