...present rowing without the slides and with stiff arms most of the time. The men are heavy, stocky and muscular, but somewhat stiff and awkward in their movements. The first eight are now rowing in the following order: Bow, Smith; 2, Lincoln; 3, Foote; 4 Delafield; 5, Ayer; 6, Borland (capt.); 7, Barnes; stroke. Harris. Stroke has an easy, regular motion, but might get a longer reach with advantage. Seven's time is rather poor and he is apt to swing back rather too far. Four and five bend their arms too soon and shoot their hands up instead...

Since not enough men to fill out the crews have signed, there will be room for three volunteers: Those using '83 barge - Loeser, Fish, Cole, Weld, Littaner, Delafield, Gordon, Smith. '84 barge - Barnes, Coolidge, Borland, Ayer, Ames, Dewey, Reynolds, (volunteer). '85 barge - Austin, Guild, Cobb, Hamlin, Barton, Adams, Harris, (volunteer). Old '82 barge - Lincoln, Atherton, Hartley, Upham, Chadburn, Locke, Harris, (volunteer).
