...Bowdoin Prize Competition, open to all resident students of the University, for dissertations in English, Greek and Latin was announced recently by Professor G. H. Maynadier '89 and Professor C. R. Post '04. The prizes are made up from the income of the request of Governor James Bowdoin who graduated from the University in 1745 and increased by G. S. Bowdoin. It offers nine prizes, five of these being for undergraduates who do not hold an academic degree or have not fulfilled the requirements therefor, and also for other candidates of A. B. or S. B. in the University...

There is in operation in many colleges and universities in this country a plan of scheme on the part of interested undergraduates that would be well and profitable for Bowdoin undergraduates to copy. It has no particular name of its own. In some places, the scheme is known as "sitting in on a course," at Harvard it is known as "vagabonding," and at other institutions the name varies. Eleven men including five members of last year's team at present constitute the University squad. West Point, Columbia, Pennsylvania, Bowdoin, B. U., Syracuse, the J. Sanford Saltus Club of New York, and Yale, are on the University fencing schedule, with the New England Division fencing meets, and the intercollegiates, as the finales of the season. Definite dates have not as yet been announced, but the first meets will come early in February...
