Noah I. Dauber's "Let Boarding Schools Bow Out Gracefully" (opinion, Nov. 16) gives a distorted, unfounded and altogether ignorant account of modern boarding schools. While he criticizes David Hicks (the former rector of the boarding school I attended, St Paul's) for demonizing the self-interests of teenagers, Dauber himself portrays all boarding school students as conceited, arrogant, "fleece-wearing friends" from suburbia. ...American boarding school. He himself seems convinced that the boarding school's best days are over. Superstition holds that these soups heighten male sexual prowess...

In the midst of our retreat from the forces of nature, it is heartening to see that City Hall, for one, hasn't been so affected by the cold. We hope that the trees will survive through the winter, which promises to be brutal to judge from the current undertow of chill. They are a pleasant addition to the newly-paved street...
