Empathic Powers. Is Paris Burning? boasts a luminous roster: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Charles Boyer, Orson Welles, Kirk Douglas (as George Patton) and Glenn Ford (Omar Bradley). But it is significant that the actor that Paramount and Seven Arts signed up first for their $6,000,000 epic is blubbery (230 Ibs.) Gert Frobe. And it was not just on the strength of his Goldfinger portrayal. Though his international following dates only from that role, the 52-year-old Frobe has some 80 film credits, five acting awards, and an infinite range-from the frightening psychopath in It Happened in Broad...
...manner born. He receives visitors in his Bellevue-Stratford Hotel suite (where he has lived with his second wife for the past 15 years) attired in blue satin smoking jacket and matching polka-dot ascot. His still-accented English has taken on the authority of a Charles Boyer, his pronounced limp (an old hip injury aggravated by an automobile accident five years ago) appears less a handicap than a charming idiosyncrasy. True, he no longer tears around town like a dragster in his car, and after several unsuccessful attempts at beating Jascha Heifetz, he has given up ping-pong...

...Charles Boyer (who presumably knew what he was doing when he signed on for this movie) is so impressed by Rock's supermanhood that he pleads with him to seduce his priggish psychologist daughter, Leslie Caron, and thereby give her a taste of what she is missing in life. Because he owes Boyer a favor, Rock reluctantly but confidently tackles the job. He poses as a patient whose problem is that women constantly tear off their clothes the minute they see him. "What I'd give to have a body nobody wanted!" he sighs, and wonders if perhaps...
These goings-on, naturally, convince Charles Boyer that Rock would make an ideal son-in-law, so he sells Rock on the proposition by picturing the revenge he would have by marrying Leslie and "keeping her pregnant all the time-waddling around with a fat belly." Which is exactly what he does. This desperately tasteless movie closes with a shot of them surrounded by six children, with more to come...
