...brighter note are Jacob Broder as Costard and Francesca Delbanco as Boyet, the Princess' chamberlain. Costard is a classic Shakespearean clown who counteracts the pretentious nobility by his own plain speaking. Broder's enthusiasm is infectious and he gets more laughs than anyone else in the show. Broder even pulls off a rather contrived time warp joke that could easily have flopped. Boyet is one of the few mature characters in the play and Uphoff (who doubles as her own costume designer) stresses this by contrasting Boyet's formal suits with the other women's hippie attire. ...pull this show through. Geidt has been around English departments long enough to pillory tweedy blusterers with disarming exaggeration. Murphy's lisping curate is straight out of Life of Brian; I waited all evening for him to say "Welease Woger!", but it never came. Rodney Hudson plays the chamberlain Boyet with liveried style and an infectious sense of fun. John Bottoms is anything but Dull as the pinch-cheeked idiot bobby, proving once again he may be the best thing going...

Rosaline (Denise Huot), in a navy blue suit and white boots, also arrives on a Honda (which, at the opening performance, nearly sailed over the footlights and into the audience), while the other two ladies, Maria (Kathleen Dabney) and Katherine (Marian Hailey), appear on foot. The Princess' courtier Boyet (Thomas Ruisinger), in a blue jacket with yellow handkerchief, white ducks, bow tie, and black-and-white shoes, is a U.S. Southerner with a duly droll drawl...
