The preliminary contest has reduced the number of speakers, so that the contest will not be wearisomely long, and special care has been taken to avoid the dull and hackneyed selections which have bored listeners in previous years. Much credit is due the instructors who have brought about this change, and have labored to make the contest something more than the dreary affair it has usually been.
