The city's great visual axis, from the Place de la Concorde through the Arc de Triomphe, will be vandalized by the satellite city of La Défense. Not only will Défense's tall towers clumsily bracket the magnificent arch, but the development authority last week announced a new office complex that will actually block the view through the arch. It is like drawing a curtain across one of Paris' most famous vistas. Because the project is official, it apparently will not be stopped...
