...These countries don't suffer for being rude - they are celebrated for it, and their economies and tourist industries are booming. So why not learn from our foreign friends and make our own special brand of rudeness part of the "American experience?" It could be a real windfall. We can export t-shirts emblazoned with "America Says You're An Idiot!" decals. Or mugs that burp when you finish your drink. Or those foam fingers with one particular digit extended. At the very least we know they'd sell awfully well in France...

Of course, this is Atlanta, so we must give a nod to the city's infamous nude dance clubs - about 40 citywide - all of which offered up a brand of excitement you just don't find back home in Kansas or Indiana - or Maryland, for that matter...

Though Bush would later brand Iran part of the "axis of evil," the task force proposed factoring in U.S. energy needs when reviewing sanctions against Iran and Libya. In addition to Exxon Mobil, two other oil giants, Conoco and Phillips Petroleum--each a $25,000 gala donor--have long opposed the sanctions, which deprive them of markets. Conoco president Archie Dunham, an old Cheney pal, visited him March 21 to press the case. Big Oil saw the task force's proposal as a victory, though hopes of lifting sanctions were dashed last summer. Congress voted to renew them...

...Oxford brand guaranteed this scandal would resonate. Two officials of Pembroke College, one of Oxford's 39 constituent colleges, had to quit last week in disgrace when it emerged they were willing to admit a bright but not stellar boy whose father was offering to contribute $420,000. Unfortunately for them, the "father" was a reporter for the Sunday Times. Pembroke and Oxford swiftly repudiated their supposedly wayward officials. All Britain united in condemning the sale of university places. And who could disagree? In modern meritocracies, state-funded universities are supposed to be incubators of talent, not whorehouses...
