...Godard's point will probably escape his American audience. For the city of Alphaville is not just any city of the future; it is Paris, perverted by Americanization, the city of light turned fluorescent. A mad scientist from New York, Dr. Von Braun, has imposed the computer on the helpless Alphavillians. Only another New Yorker, like Caution, can cope with such an environment...

...Bones About It. Behind this Triumph is Executive Director Herbert Braun, 55, a shy and ascetic "Herr Doktor" (economics and social sciences), who seized the hardly new idea that bras and girdles should be attractive as well as functional. Braun hired Designer Heinrich Ernst Hoelscher in 1955 to re-engineer the company's products along lines that had already been adopted in the U.S. The men could do little to change the clumsy German name for the bra-Büstenhalter-but they did alter the garment itself. In keeping with the shape and mood of the times, Triumph calls its sportswear by such names as "Caprice" and "Swing-times," and its lingerie "Jolly," "Amourette" and "Poesie." Braun applauds Rudi Gernreich as a pacemaker, but has yet to try the topless approach...

Peppard plods heroically along, becomes the trusted aide of the mastermind behind the V-2 program-a character not unlike Wernher von Braun -and is all set for a preposterous last-reel countdown. He shoots it out with the Gestapo, slaughters scores of guards, finally pulls the switch that opens the doors that let out the light that serves as a signal to Allied planes. The bombardiers drop in their eggs just in time to abort an intercontinental missile called "the New York rocket," lifting off for parts unknown. In fact, Germany's underground rocket factory was never bombed...
