The trouble started in the servants' dressing room with a dispute over dishes; the men became excited and were soon engaged in a lively brawl. A. Terry, another waiter, attempted to separate the fighters, whereupon, Roachford pulled a revolver and fired several shots at Hughes, striking him in the arm and abdomen.
