Died. Lieut.-Colonel Alfred Dreyfus, retired, 75, protagonist of France's most notorious cause cèleébre; after long illness (uremia); in Paris. In 1894 Captain Dreyfus, 35, first Jew on the French General Staff, was arrested on a charge of selling military secrets to Germany. Court-martialed, he was convicted of high treason on the basis of a secret dossier, which was later proved a forgery, and other scant evidence including the testimony of famed Handwriting Expert Alphonse Bertillon.
