Another important issue concerned the proposed natural gas pipeline that will stretch some 3,000 miles from Siberia through East Germany to Western Europe. The West Germans would like to see Honecker approve the pipeline agreement, which was discussed last month by Schmidt and Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev.
