...solar system suddenly appears to be a surprisingly wet place, according to new findings by the Cassini space probe orbiting Saturn. Last week NASA released images of water-crystal geysers spouting from Saturn's bright-white moon Enceladus. The water probably comes from shallowly buried deposits, warmed by gravitational pulses from Saturn itself and various passing moons. Cassini also discovered carbon-based molecules in the vicinity of Enceladus. Water, warmth and carbon are key ingredients in the recipe for life. Whether Enceladus does--or even could--harbor biology is one more thing for the hearty Cassini to investigate...
...final scene of Goldeneye, invincible hero James Bond is pushed to the edge by Alec Trevelyan before emerging victorious once again. On the ice of the Bright Hockey Center this weekend, the Harvard men’s hockey team will have to outlast another motivated Trevelyan as the Crimson hopes to emerge victorious over T.J. and the rest of St. Lawrence for the sixth and seventh straight times. Harvard has never been shy about honoring its traditions. From the stained glass windows of Memorial Hall to the bright red bricks that line its storied buildings, the University likes to keep its relics intact. Well, most of them.Ironically, the Crimson shield—the University’s logo and the ostensibly eternal distillation of its identity—has undergone significant change since the University’s birth back in 1636. Back then, it wasn’t just about “Veritas.” It was “Veritas pro Christo et Ecclesia...
...careless as that.” And in 1965, Gomes entered the Harvard Divinity School.Gomes earned his bachelor of sacred theology degree, the precursor to the MDiv, in 1968. During his time at HDS, he began to see an unexpected intersection.“I found people who were bright and pious,” Gomes says. “I’d thought those were water-tight compartments.”But as his own career would later show, the worlds of spirituality and academia are not mutually exclusive, a revelation that many continue to discover at HDS.THE...
