...Island", and "The Yellow Drape." Two large canvases, "Staircase" and "Still Life with Glass Bottle" are the works of Morris Kantor, whose more recent pictures hint toward Victorian subjects treated in the Modern Manner. In the two temper paintings "Tenth Avenue" and "Locomotive Watering," Reginald Marsh has suppressed the brilliant coloring which formerly characterized his pieces...
...were released Elissa Landi's third novel and her fifth cinema. She had reason to be pleased with both. The book, House for Sale (Doubleday, Doran ?$2.00) is a competent study of a female musician who gave up her career in favor of matrimony and three children. No brilliant achievement for a professional novelist, it is probably the best fiction ever perpetrated by a cinemactress. The picture, Devil's Lottery, less sensational than The Yellow Ticket in which she last performed, is a glib and interesting melodrama in which Miss Landi performs far better than any other female novelist...
...only undefeated players left in the tournament. Van Belle was nervous. Sitting in a stiff armchair, he puckered up his lips, blinked gloomily at the ivory joint of his cue while Poensgen had the table. He was only once able to get control of his game, for a brilliant run of 69, before Poensgen had the match 400 to 206. Poensgen was still undefeated when he played Soussa. Robert Edmond Jones's completed sets are generally more effective than his sketches. Jo Mielziner's seldom are. In addition he has found time between building scale models, carpenter's blue prints, electricians' light plots, laying out color schemes, to make a number...
...started. The New York Rangers, winners in the American Group, lost their first game to the Montreal Canadiens, 4 to 3. Defending the championship, which they have won for the past two years, the Canadiens were favorites to win again. A fast, clever team, they are noted for a brilliant offense. Its spearhead is Howie Morenz, reputedly the fastest player in the world, famed for the way he pivots behind the goal to get up speed when carrying the puck. Last week, Howie Morenz received a cup for being the most valuable player to his team in the National Hockey...
