On entering the gate on Garden street, one finds, on the left hand, arranged in a roockery, a choice selection of the plants which were favorites in English gardens in the time of Queene Anne. Just beyond, there is a brilliant mass of "flame" Azaleas and Rhododendrons, with their humbler relatives from the swamps. Further on is a large group of desert plants, fringed under the higher maples and magnolias, with tree ferns and palms from the conservatory. ...varsity defeated the academy team at Exeter Saturday. The contest, although not close, was interesting on account of the brilliant fielding of both nines. The work of the 'varsity, both in the field and at the bat, was encouraging. Four of the seven runs were earned and sharp fielding prevented Exeter from scoring oftener. Wiggin made two phenomenal catches in center field and Paine and Whittemore also fielded well. C. J. Paine was in the box for six innings and pitched well. Highlands pitched the last inning.
